Review: Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronzing Gel Matte

By Amanda - augusti 10, 2017

I use self tanner almost all year round, unless I'm really lazy in the winter. I feel so much better and healthier with a nice golden tan. But with all the self tanners I have tried, they just refuse to stick to my chest area, so my arms and the back of my neck would be tanned, but my décolletage would be so much paler. So instead of trying to apply layer after layer of developing tan without result, I found this product from Cocoa Brown and decided to give it a go!

This is an instant tanner that you just wash off completely at night. I purchased mine from Cocopanda.se, one of my favourite online shops here in Sweden, as they almost always have different discount campaigns.

It comes out super dark which seems a bit scary at first, but as you start to blend it out..

.. it gets less scary. It has a very lightweight texture, it's like a lotion so it's very easy to blend.

Once blended in it will leave you with a nice bronze tan. I have no tan on my fingers here, for comparison.

You have to smear it around for a bit until it starts to sink in and then you can blend it to make sure it doesn't streak. It dries within a minute or less. Applying over sunscreen makes it more difficult to blend if you don't wait for the sunscreen to dry, so keep that in mind. Once your sunscreen has dried a bit, the tan applies perfectly on top.

The shade for me is basically the shade I'd want my fake tan to develop to (by sticking to my chest, grr) so it matches my arms and legs nicely. You can also layer this fine, just wait for it to dry in between applications.

It's difficult to say what exact shade this turns into and of course the result will be different depending on what your natural skin color is, or the tan color you're applying it over. I'd probably suggest you be on the pale-medium side to get a good color payoff.

A small amount spreads a long way too, so the product will last quite a while if you only use where needed. If you plan on using this for your whole body, it obviously won't last as long, but for my purpose of simply boosting my tan, I get good value.

I apply this in the morning to my neck and chest area, or where needed, wait for it to dry and then do my makeup. It can also be mixed in with your foundation to darken it if needed. I tried applying this alone to my face aswell but I don't recommend that because it looked quite dark and orange, but it might work for you.

I have the matte version, but I wouldn't say it's matte, it's just not shimmery. I bought the matte for a more wearable day tan, but if you want some glam and shimmer, you could try the shimmer version.

Would I repurchase this product? Absolutely! If you need a good, affordable, cruelty free instant self tanner and Cocoa Brown is available to you, I'd definitely recommend you pick this up.
